Intuitive remappable controls on the ear cups. Sidetone and chat mix capabilities. | Qi charging is slow. High price point compared with competitors. Lack of features on the software. Wireless only for connectivity. Mic Quality. |
03. HyperX Cloud Flight S: Design
Firstly, when we come to the design of the headset, we see that the headset is almost identical to the original HyperX Cloud Flight headset. But normally we can see vibrant red cables on the HyperX gaming headsets. However, in this model, there are no longer see that vibrant red cables between the headbands. The ear cups on this wireless gaming headset look fantastic with the same sort of style most HyperX fans loved about the original model.
|
HyperX tried to make this headset a much more versatile headset than your traditional gaming headset. The headset looks much sleeker than most HyperX headsets we already have. The headset lost a lot of the bulk we usually see on the headband and only sported it on the ear cups themselves. However, they still offered the same great comfort that we would expect from a headset like this.
04. HyperX Cloud Flight S: Build Quality
All HyperX headsets have excellent build quality. So, it’s no surprise that we can see the same here with this HyperX Cloud Flight S headset. The build is entirely plastic aside from the steel sliders in the headband. The headband doesn’t flex like many other brands in the gaming headset market. But it still feels that there is enough to give us great durability.
|
The ear cups are durable and comfortable leatherette. The included boom microphone is detachable and keyed. It can only go in one way as well. The microphone arm is a very sturdy and flexible plastic that can be easily molded to get that perfect position.
05. HyperX Cloud Flight S: Controls
The hardware controls with the HyperX Cloud Flight S are some of the most intuitive controls among gaming headsets. Because we have everything we need at our fingertips. On the right ear cup, there is a classic volume scroll wheel. The volume wheel is easy to find out how’re prominent notches to help aid the process and it is an infinite wheel. When we reach max volume there is an audible beep.
|
On the left ear cup, we can see the majority of functionality with the headset. There is the power button with a power light indicator which will actually beep as far as the battery charge.
- 100 to 99 percent – Solid Green
- 99 to 50 percent – Blinking Green
- 15 percent and below – Red Light
This is helpful to let you know at which time we need to charge the headset. Underneath the power button, we have a 7.1 surround sound button that is relatively easy to turn on. We only have to press and hold to get this turned on even when the headset has gone to sleep.
Then we have the charge port and the microphone port. Speaking of sleep when audio is played again the headset will bounce back to life. The ear cup is now host to four programmable buttons.
06. HyperX Cloud Flight S: Programmable Buttons
On the left ear cup, we can see the little indentions going all the way around the headset. Four little buttons are pretty cool. It does not really press in the ear cup and it kind of goes with a little movement. These are actually little soft touch buttons. We can barely press them like a remote.
It’s set to game volume and chat volume. It’s pretty cool. When we get maxed out on game volume there it beeps a couple times and comes over to chat volume and it also beeps to let us know we are on that max setting. This is a really cool feature because of these little touches that make such a big difference in gaming headsets.
|
Because when we get into the middle of that setting, we do get the indicator in the ingenuity software. But we all don’t have any indicator that up the middle of a game. So, when we get right to the middle of that setting, we get a tone. Then there is also we have mic mute in the down button and the sidetone in the up button. We also can get into ingenuity software and customize those buttons to whatever we like. If you want them to be your volume adjust instead of the wheel or you can also, do it as a track select play, pause stuff like that.
So, this is a really cool feature because if you’re in a game you’re not adjusting the whole earcup we are just pressing the silent button. So, when we are gaming with friends, it is not going to hear other friends on the other end that we are pressing buttons on our gaming headset.
07. HyperX Cloud Flight S: Comfort
In terms of comfort, this headset is one of the best in the HyperX brand because of the improved plush cushions but also the lightweight. It comes with a microphone attached and weighs 320 grams. So, we can barely notice the headset on the head at all while the longer sessions of playing games.
The clamping force feels good not too tight, and it is keeping the headset firmly on the head without being uncomfortable over time. We will never feel the plastic while wearing this gaming headset. Because the headband cushioning is so comfortable for the top of the head.
|
The ear cups also are comfortable for ears with the durability of the plush memory foam cushions. The ear cups come with a nice oval shape to leave plenty of room for my ears to sit inside. When we are wearing the headset, it will never make our ear sweat or become uncomfortable.
So, as I mentioned before in the comfort department-wise, HyperX Cloud Flight S is the best wireless gaming headset in the HyperX. We can tilt the ear cups to get a nice natural seal on any head size. The ear cups also feature the same 90 degrees of rotation as with the original HyperX Cloud Flight. So, we can rest the headset nicely on our shoulders.
08. HyperX Cloud Flight S: Microphone
The microphone of this gaming headset is a detachable boom microphone that is great for use on your daily commute. The microphone did a superb job of removing the background noise like TV sounds and keyboard clicking sounds with the windscreen of the microphone. It holds the position really well whenever we put it on.
|
We have a nice LED indicator on the backside of the microphone which is work as a notification to let us know whether the microphone is muted or unmuted. The LED indicator of the microphone will turn red when it is muted.
The sound quality of the microphone is great for a wireless gaming headset. It stays at the same level even while moving around like going in and out of different rooms and basically there are no drops or interruptions of the signals.
09. HyperX Cloud Flight S: Battery Life
We get up to 30 hours of battery life with this HyperX Cloud Flight S gaming headset. It is “up to” because it’s pending as far as the volume uses. If we use volume at 50% it will manage to get 30 hours and 3 hours to get fully charge the headset. So, this amazing battery life will last all day for longer game sessions. It comes with the auto-off feather if 15 minutes with no sounds to save the battery life. We can charge it with the USB cable that we have in the box and the charging port is on the left ear cup.
|
The coolest thing about this wireless gaming headset is we also can Qi charging wireless charging. So, this made the headset truly wireless. We only have to do charging and put the left ear cup of the headset on the Qi charger. It’s easy to decipher. Because it has buttons on the left ear cup to set it down to the Qi charger. Then the lights will sync up to notify us to let us know the headset is set to the Qi charger. This is really cool and works fantastic.
In the ear cups, we can see little metal brackets with a couple metal balls. They swivel in and lock into out and they don’t move out. Most swivels can adjust to any head shape. But in this gaming headset, it swivels there but it is locking plates. Because whatever we Center on the Qi charger it’s going to hold its position. If it didn’t have those in the ear cups to adjust the headsets will falling over. So, those lock into place in ear cups stays nice and secure and balanced on the Qi wireless charger.
10. HyperX Cloud Flight S: Sound Quality
To hear sound quality, we can pair it wirelessly with a pretty cool USB dongle, and it can easily pair. Because we don’t have to hold any button down for any pairing and we just have to plug it into the PC or a console. There is a little red light back in the USB dongle to indicate that we are set and paired up ready to play with the headset.
Whether I was watching YouTube videos, playing games, listening to some music or even editing a video this gaming headset sounded fantastic. We have a frequency range of 10 to 22000 hertz with 10 being the low-end and 20000 hertz being the high-end. A lot of gaming headsets in the gaming headset market, and the majority time is 20 to 20000 hertz. But HyperX Cloud Flight S this being 10 to 22000 will be given everything a moment to shine.
The bass was overtaking anything, and we had a really nice crispy high up. We can really decipher the environment as well. With that range when we are playing shooting games, it’s not overtaking like if a grenade comes off in front of you and we still hear those footsteps while the grenades going off really nice and balanced.
|
Usually, when we hear that fake 7.1 in gaming headset it really opens things up and makes things sound really distant and just echoey. But this gaming headset doesn’t really do that. When we press the 7.1 surround sound button on the headset it’s almost like a high increase, It increases the high frequency and the highs are just incredibly potent.
When it turns the 7.1 went off the volume goes a little bit lower just an absolute pinch. It comes flat and just comes down a little bit. When you press the 7.1 it’s an incredible jump up and it just really brings out the highs. So it works like an audio profile like it got flat or just normal and you press it and you got a high boost.
11. HyperX Cloud Flight S: Ngenuity Software
We can download the Ngenuity software from the windows app store or from the HyperX website. The Ngenuity app has two tabs. The first tab for audio is where we can adjust the volume of the headset and mic and turn on the mic monitoring. We also have a toggle here to turn on the 7.1 surround sound. Then we have an auto-optimize feature if we want to have the audio play a certain way for certain games.
Finally, in the audio tab, we can also balance the game and chat volume as well. The second tab is the more exciting one. Because as I mentioned above in programmable buttons, it’s where we can customize the four programmable buttons on the left ear cup. There are a lot of customizable options to apply to four programmable buttons.
12. Verdict
